What Are Composite Veneers?

This treatment goes by several names – cosmetic composite on teeth or cosmetic composite veneers – but dentists usually refer to it as composite veneers. The treatment involves placing a thin layer of composite material on top of your natural tooth or teeth to improve their appearance. There is no “standard veneer” – each one is carefully shaped by hand to match the form and shade of your natural teeth.

The main purpose of composite veneers is to create a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing smile by covering cosmetic imperfections or discolorations.

One major advantage is that composite veneers do not require drilling into the teeth, as they are bonded directly onto the surface. This makes the treatment gentle and protective of your natural teeth, since no tooth substance needs to be removed. Compared with porcelain veneers, composite veneers are a less invasive procedure – although they generally do not last as long as porcelain. During your consultation, our cosmetic dentist will always evaluate your teeth and situation to recommend the most suitable type of veneer.

How cosmetic dentistry veneers works

Treatment with composite veneers begins with a thorough examination and a discussion about your expectations. The procedure itself usually takes around three hours and is performed directly in the dental chair. The dentist shapes the veneers directly on the tooth to achieve the desired form and color. Once complete, you can leave the clinic with your “new” teeth the same day.

Price of Composite Veneers

The cost of composite veneers varies depending on several factors, such as how many teeth are treated and whether additional procedures are necessary. Because every patient’s needs are unique, we recommend visiting our clinic for a consultation so we can assess your situation and provide a precise estimate.

Does It Hurt to Get Composite Veneers – and What About Side Effects?

Pain during treatment is usually minimal, and anesthesia is rarely needed. Some patients may experience mild discomfort or sensitivity during the procedure.

Once the veneers are in place, there may be a short adjustment period where your teeth feel different, but this typically subsides after a few days. In rare cases, mild side effects can occur, such as temporary sensitivity or gum irritation. These issues are usually short-lived. As with any dental treatment, there is a small risk of gum infection, but this is minimal and can be effectively treated if necessary.

With modern cosmetic dentistry, composite veneers offer a gentle, affordable, and effective way to enhance your smile.
